How AI Allows Complex Phenomena to Harmonize with Creative Arts
[Abstract]
AI has become pervasive in almost every aspect of applications in lifestyle such as chatbot, personalized learning, autonomous vehicles, health care, and so on. One of the most interesting applications is content creation, and now AI can help even laymen facilitate complicated physical phenomena for their private content production. In this talk, I would like to talk about our recent efforts on computational artworks, including Fluid Stylization utilized for the main character of “Elemental”, the latest Disney and Pixar animation.
[Biography]
Byungsoo Kim is a Senior Software Engineer developing Simulation AI technology at NVIDIA. Before joining the team, he was a postdoctoral researcher at Computer Graphics Lab at ETH Zurich and a technical consultant at Disney Research Studios after finishing his MSc and joint PhD at the same institutes in 2016 and 2021, advised by Prof. Markus Gross. Prior to that, he worked at FXGear in Korea as a Graphics Research Engineer for three years and co-founded a ConTech startup TENELEVEN in 2013 after his BSc in Computer Science at KAIST in 2009. His research interest lies at the intersection of machine learning and physics-based simulations in computer graphics. In particular, his main objective is to develop new data-driven techniques for efficient and controllable simulations of visual effects. (website: www.byungsoo.me)
