   Biography

Yeongpil Cho received the BS degree in Electrical Engineering from the POSTECH, Korea, in 2010. He also received the PhD degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the Seoul National University, Korea, in 2018. Since 2018, he has been an assistant professor in the School of Software at Soongsil University. He is interested in all computer security related problems in general. His research focus is in hardening the security of the system by designing and implementing security mechanisms for eliminating vulnerabilities and mitigating attacks.

abstract

System security is an important and urgent issue to protect our programs and data. To data, many software-based security solutions have been developed, but most of them have not actually been adopted due to the large performance impact on the system. Accordingly, processor vendors, such as Intel and ARM, have started to actively include various security-oriented hardware features in their recent processors. In this talk, I am going to talk about some of such hardware features and how they contribute to system security. Specifically, I will remind you of several security threats and then introduce you to the hardware feature that is specialized in addressing each threat.
