Biography

HyungSeok Kim is Professor in the department of software in Konkuk University. He received Ph.D in Computer Science from KAIST in 2002. Before joining Konkuk university, he was a senior researcher in MIRALab., University of Geneva from 2003 to 2006. He has been participated in various EU and industrial projects regrading on virtual reality, augmented reality and virtual humans. He was a visiting scholar at Institute of Media Innovation, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore in 2011~2012. He is also adjunct professor of VIT, India. His main research interests are real-time rendering, virtual reality and multimodal interactions.

 

Abstract

Virtual reality technology is to provide realistic experiences in cyberspace. With rapid advances in hardware technology, it is receiving great interests from markets. To provide realistic experiences, it is necessary to design believable interactions in many difference modalities which includes visual, auditory, and haptic. This talk consists of two parts. The first part is to introduce current state of the art in both hardware and software technology to provide realistic experience in virtual environment. In the second part, a new approach to give sensory illusions will be discussed with examples and possible applications.
