Biography

Jaeyoon Chung is Co-Founder and Inventor of Myota, Inc. He received his B.S. and Ph.D. degrees from the Dept. of Computer Science and Engineering at POSTECH in 2009 and 2015, respectively. After getting his PhD, he worked as a Postdoctoral Research Associate in Edge Lab at Princeton University for two years. In 2016, he contributed to OpenFog Consortium as a Co-Chair of Testbed Working Group. In August 2017, he co-founded a startup company, Myota, Inc. based on his research, a client-centric distributed storage system. He is currently in charge of research and development of the solutions at Myota.

Abstract

Most distributed storage solutions have been developed for data centers or other strictly controlled environments. However, as resources at the network edges (close to end user), the properties of the legacy distributed storage solutions are not applicable because of the diversity and low reliability. To overcome the challenge, CYRUS (Client-defined privacY protected Reliable cloUd Service) was designed and implemented as an elastic storage solution that is fully client-centric, allowing users to handle variable availability and possible untrustworthiness at different remote storage locations. The solution ensures availability, security, and storage efficiency by employing data deduplication and erasure coding to guarantee a user’s ability to access his or her files. In this talk, I will introduce CYRUS and its commercial solution. I will also introduce my journey from the research to founding a startup company located at the east coast of the Unites States, including fund raising, IP licensing, and team building.
